According to Forbes North Carolina is the second-best state to do business, falling right behind Utah who was ranked number one. North Carolina is the only state to appear in the top five every year of the Best States study. According to Forbes, The state boasts a strong labor force and business-friendly incentive, legal and regulatory environments. North Carolina also drew high marks for attracting more new facilities and expansions in 2014 than any other state.
“Companies cited the benefits of the Research Triangle Park area with its wealth of technical talent and strong universities,” Forbes says.

- Labor Supply
- Regulatory Environment
- Economic Climate
- Growth Prospects
- Quality of Life
According to Forbes business costs, which include labor, energy and taxes are weighted more heavily than other categories.
