Investor & Philanthropist with Triangle ties presents at SXSW

Steve Case along with his wife Jean, two of the world’s most prominent technology pioneers, investors and philanthropists, will be sharing a roadmap for innovators and entrepreneurs who want to change the world today at SXSW Interactive.

The CEO of Revolution and co-founder of AOL, has ties to the Triangle through his funding in several Triangle companies through the Google for Entrepreneur’s Demo Day. The companies are:

  • Windsor Circle – a predictive lifecycle and retention marketing platform. Windsor Circle has grown exponentially after completing a $5.25 million Series B funding round in the summer of 2014.
  • Automated Insights – a technology company that analyzes patterns in big data and turns them into readable narratives. They were acquired a year ago by Vista Equity Partners for an undisclosed amount, after previously raising $5.5 million in a Series B round.
  • Mati Energy – a healthy energy drink. Mati just opened a new production facility and secured a $1.35 million investment deal with Anheuser-Busch distributor Harris Beverages.

Case made a trip to Raleigh last year during his “Rise of the Rest” tour, a nationwide effort to tell the story about startups that are starting up and scaling up anywhere, not just the traditional startup spaces.  During his trip he saw great potential in the area stating, “It feels like there’s really a lot of work underway in the last decade to put the foundation in place... But it feels like it could really accelerate in the next decade.”

Areas like the Triangle will continue to thrive according to Case because of the success of innovation and entrepreneurship, which he says are the future of the community.
