Why You Should Attend the ED Forum

We all know growth and change are imminent for Wake County and the Research Triangle region. The main question is: how will it change our community? While the answer isn’t clear at the moment, this year’s Economic Development Forum will start to explore the future of Wake County and the region.

This year’s keynote speaker is Ted Abernathy, a well-known economist. He will lead us through his projection for the future and will explore ways in which we can be ready to adjust to incremental growth over time. Ted offers a refreshing and motivating viewpoint and is realistic in his views. His candid and research-based approach will leave attendees with a vision for the future. Growth over time won’t be without challenges, but the more we can prepare and discuss, Wake County and the Research Triangle region will be ready.

Ted’s keynote will be followed by a panel to discuss key aspects of a growing community that will change in the next 20 years. The panelists will bring their respective industry experience to the conversation and discuss their views on topics including education, talent, technology, urban planning and development, and the local economy. Panelists are:

  • Ted Abernathy, managing partner of Economic Leadership LLC
  • Roberta Fox, urban designer and architect
  • Daniel Stancil, executive director of IBM Q Hub, NC State
  • Catherine Truitt, chancellor of Western Governors University
  • Michael Haley, executive director, Wake County Economic Development, Moderator

Part of what makes Wake County and the Research Triangle region one of the best places to live and one of the fastest growing metros in America is the dedication of addressing important topics and coming to solutions to help our community evolve. As a famous quote says, “nothing is consistent but change,” which is a good reminder for us as a region.

Join us at the Economic Development Forum on May 15 to be part of planning for the future.
