Raleigh-Durham International Airport will partner with Wake Technical Community College to make the airport’s firearms range available to professional law enforcement officers for continuing education purposes. The outdoor firearms range is used primarily by airport police officers for ongoing training, but is used frequently by area law enforcement agencies for training and certification needs.
The new agreement will provide Wake Tech access and use of the outdoor firearms range, a facility unavailable at its public safety campus. As part of its public safety program, Wake Tech provides in-service training to law enforcement agencies throughout the year to meet law enforcement training and certification requirements.
For two weeks each month, Wake Tech will have dedicated access to the firearms range and will make facility improvements at its expense. Among the improvements to be made is installation of a solar power system, installation of a small range tower and construction of two small buildings for classroom and storage.
