Wake County Economic Development Names Michael Haley Director Of Business Recruitment And Expansion

Wake County Economic Development, a program of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the lead economic development agency for Wake County, has announced that Michael Haley has been promoted to director of business recruitment and expansion. In his new role, Haley will lead the county’s business recruitment expansion team in an effort to continue Wake’s commitment to the fundamentals of economic health and a strong standard of living. Through lead generation, business recruitment and cultivating relationships with targeted consultants, he will serve as the principal contact for prospective companies in the information technology, smart grid and life science sectors while being dedicated to ensuring Wake County is one of the best places for businesses in the country.

Previously, Haley served three years as project manager for Wake County Economic Development, where he managed economic development for new and expanding companies in the county. He was also responsible for managing efforts around smart grid clusters and technology clusters. Prior to joining the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Haley worked with the North Carolina Department of Commerce for six years, serving as policy analyst and later policy director. In these roles, Haley staffed the North Carolina Economic Development Board and developed economic strategies that directly attributed to North Carolina’s business and economic success.

Haley received his Master of Public Administration from East Carolina University, where he was awarded the highly acclaimed North Carolina Governor’s Public Management Fellowship in 2000, making him one of just 12 recipients of the honor that year. He previously earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ingrained in his community, Haley is an active member of the North Carolina Economic Development Association. A native of Jacksonville, North Carolina, he resides in Raleigh with his wife, Danielle, and their two daughters, Mary and Caroline.
