Red Hat has officially announced its move to downtown Raleigh, coming just days after the company agreed to sublease 380,000 square feet from Progress Energy – a deal valued at $87 million over the next 23 years. Raleigh mayor Nancy McFarlane, as well as City Council officials and Chamber of Commerce executives were present to officially welcome the company to downtown. Currently headquartered on NC State University’s Centennial campus, the company intends to relocate more than 750 employees to its new space, and will add an estimated 540 employees over the next 9 years. Red Hat will move in stages to the 19-story Two Progress Plaza building located at 100 Davie Street. The relocation is expected to be complete by Jan. 1, 2013.
