WCED Blog

Welcome to the Wake Economic Development Blog!

Hello, and welcome to the first blog for Wake County Economic Development.  I am Ken Atkins, executive director of WCED, and I will be alternating entries here with my assistant executive director, Conni Tucker.  Together we hope to tell you how various parts of our business, education, culture and other factors combine to make Wake County one of the fastest growing and most honored regions in America.

Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself.  I grew up in Wake County, so I can personally attest to how it has grown bigger and better over several decades.  It’s a source of pride and wonderment for me.  If I had told anyone when I was a kid that in the 21st century Wake would grow to around 1 million residents and be home to several professional sports leagues, including soccer, they would have thought I was crazy.  Heck, even I might have thought I was crazy.  But it’s all true.

Right now, there are more reasons than ever for people to live, work and play here.  You can find everything from quiet rural living to bustling downtown activities.  We have people who work at home, at schools and universities, at entrepreneurial start-ups, at city, county, state and federal government, and even multinational corporations.  It is truly a unique place, and I cannot wait to tell you more about it.

We will be updating this blog frequently with our stories.  To keep up with the latest information, we invite you to subscribe our RSS feed by clicking here so that we can notify you when new items appear.
