North Carolina Named Top State for Women-led Startups

North Carolina has been listed as one of the top states for women-led startups in 2023. In an annual report by Merchant Maverick, North Carolina ranked No. 9 on the list of all 50 states. This is an eight-point improvement from 2021, when the state was listed at No. 17. The study found that 28.2% of all employer firms in N.C. are led solely by women and 20.82% of employees are led solely by a woman. An array of gender-specific metrics were taken into consideration, including percentages of women self-employed in their own business, employer firms led by women, and employees at women-led firms.
